QR Codes Enhance Lehi's Historical Markers

The Lehi Historical Society has brought a modern twist to its historical markers by integrating QR code generator technology into each marker. Since June 2024, QR codes have been added to the poles of 15 historical markers, offering visitors an engaging way to delve deeper into Lehi's rich past.

A Gateway to History

Each QR code serves as a portal to extensive information about the historical site it accompanies. According to Lara Bangerter, the director of the Lehi Historical Society, the physical markers are limited to just 378 characters, which is insufficient to capture the full story. The QR codes overcome this limitation by providing instant access to a wealth of data directly from visitors' mobile devices.

The QR code stickers are strategically placed for easy access, directing users to detailed narratives, a list of all markers, event coverages, historical photographs, lapel pin purchase opportunities, and maps with marker locations. Furthermore, they grant access to the society’s vast online library, making it a comprehensive resource for history enthusiasts.

Explore Lehi with Ease

With many markers conveniently located within walking distance of each other, residents and tourists alike can embark on a self-guided historical tour at their leisure. Lara Bangerter emphasizes that this initiative not only promotes learning but also fosters a connection with the city's heritage.

Origins and Future Plans

The Lehi Historical Marker Program began in 2022, funded by a generous donation from the John David and Danaca Hadfield family of HADCO Construction, along with a grant from Lehi City PARC. This support has been pivotal in bringing the project to life, allowing the society to continue its mission of preserving and sharing Lehi’s history.

Looking ahead, the program plans to unveil new markers in 2026, starting with the Relief Society Hall at 212 W. Main St. on March 21. For those eager to stay informed, the society’s gift shop, located at 99 W. Main St., STE 100, is offering a 2026 calendar that outlines next year's unveiling schedule.
