Visitors to Whistler should be on high alert following a recent warning from town officials regarding a credit card scam. Fraudulent QR code stickers were discovered on parking meters across several major Day Lots, posing a risk to unsuspecting drivers.
Details of the Scam
On December 27, 2025, Whistler staff uncovered 24 fake QR code stickers attached to parking terminals in key locations including Day Lots 1 through 5, Main Street, and the Marketplace lot. These stickers were cleverly designed to resemble the legitimate PayByPhone signage. However, instead of directing users to a genuine site, they led to a fraudulent one aimed at stealing credit card information.
The swift action by the town led to the removal of these fake stickers within 24 hours. Officials urge anyone who may have scanned these codes to immediately cancel their credit cards to prevent any potential misuse.
Prevention and Safety Measures
This type of scam, often referred to as "quishing," has affected other municipalities in British Columbia. To prevent falling victim to such schemes, Whistler officials remind visitors that the Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) does not use QR codes for parking payments. Here are the verified methods you should use:

- Pay at physical stations using credit cards or coins.
- Call the dedicated payment line at 1-866-234-7275.
